Flu couldn’t stop Daniels’ slugfest
Northland boxer Lani Daniels has revealed the struggles leading up to last Friday’s fight at Lake Karapiro where she beat New Zealand amateur champion Tinta Smith to collect her third New Zealand professional boxing title .
She says she got Covid-19 in May soon after the fight was announced, delaying the start of her training camp.
While in training she was nursing an injury, and she got influenza two weeks before the fight, which led to her losing 8 kg.
On top of that she was mourning the death in May of her cousin, who she dedicated the fight to.
Daniels, from Ngapuhi and Ngati Hine, is currently ranked first on Boxrec, 5th in the WBA and 5th on the ESPN in the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight rankings.
She’s looking for a major sponsor to help her to resume her bid for international titles.
