Mangere target for Saturday vax push
ProCare is teaming up with Waikato Tainui, Turuki Health Care and Hāpai te Hauora for a big vaccination push at Māngere Town Centre tomorrow.
Inducements include entertainment, free petrol voucher giveaways, kai, and a chance to win a trip to Rarotonga.
Kaiwhakahaere Mihi Blair says the primary healthcare network has about 6000 people in the area on its database and are yet to be vaccinated.
She says younger age groups are proving a particular challenge, as many of them don’t want to think about their health or feel invincible, and it’s proving hard to find the right messages or influencers.
“We’ve put a lot of pressure on our rangatahi to say ‘you’ve got to tell us what to do.’ I think there has got to be a leadership role in our own whānau, our parents to say ‘actually this is a good decision for our whānau, we’re going to look at the facts, the clinical facts,” Ms Blair says.
ProCare’s doctors and Māori clinical team have been ringing whānau to answer any questions they have about the vaccines and urging them to come along.
The Aio Nuku Aio Rangi – Max Vax drive-through event at Māngere Town Centre runs from 10 am-3 pm, and sign language interpreters will be available.
Turuki is also running a vaccination event tomorrow at the Hopuhopu sports ground.
