Big crowd expected for Whānau Ora Day
A programme to give whānau control over their lives is being celebrated in Tāmaki Makaurau tomorrow.
The National Urban Māori Authority is hosting Whānau Ora Community Day at Nga Whare Waatea Mārae in Mangere.
Authority Chair, Willie Jackson, says Whānau Ora is transforming Māori communities because families are placed at the centre of service design and delivery.
He says the presence of acts like Moana and the Tribe, Che Fu, Young Sid, Pieter T, Dei Hamo and international star Spawnbreezie means the mārae is expecting a crowd of over 1,000.
“The more – the better. If they come in and then see the services that we’ve got and hear some of our messages by bringing some of our success stories on to the stage and then introducing our minister of Whānau Ora, Tariana Turia – you can’t have a better day than that! These are the days to celebrate in terms of communities – and South Auckland communities always need these positive sorts of days – and that’s what tomorrow is all about,” he says.
Whānau Ora Community Day at Ngā Whare Waatea starts at 10am tomorrow morning and runs until 5pm.
