Whanau Ora in productivity study
The Productivity Commission wants to look at the effectiveness of Whanau Ora as part of a wider review of the way social services are commissioned and run.
Inquiries director Geoff Lewis says it's keen to find out what the public, not-for-profit and private sectors can learn from each other, and how government agencies and service providers can coordinate social services better.
He says the review team will talk to Whanau Ora providers and the three commissioning agencies.
It's interested in the idea of an integrated and culturally appropriate model for social service delivery.
"It's a new approach in which the power to decide what services whanau need is really devolved right down close to the whanau and that might be one of the keys as to why it will work and be effective. The thing we want is to learn lessons like this that could be applied to other social services," Mr Lewis says.
