Sharper focus for Maori Television
The chief executive of Maori Television is looking forward to presenting a sharper image.
The service has secured $10.6 million over the next four years to upgrade to high definition.
Paora Maxwell says if viewers switch channels now between Maori television and mainstream they will notice a change in picture quality.
He says TVNZ and MediaWorks have been high definition for some time.
"We're still on standard definition. In simple terms it's about the quality of the picture. It's those subtle things though that influence the way that people engage with the screen and engage with your content and we don't want our picture to be any less than any other broadcaster so that is part of the reason we argued for moving to high definition," Mr Maxwell says.
Maori Television still gets far less than comparable indigneous language services overseas.
