The Principals’ Federation says Prime Minister Bill English is out of touch with education and he’s throwing policies into the election mix that can’t be delivered on.
National’s big education promises is to allow all students to take a second language.
Federation president Whetu Cormick says new Education Minister has been good about consulting with the profession, but the new policies came out of thin air.
He says there are not enough teachers to teach te reo Maori, let alone other languages.
"He’s also talked about perhaps online learning and we know that relationships and kanohi ki te kanohi is the ideal for building any learning opportunity so to sit and look at a computer and to listen to a computer to learn a language I think has no substance so he is out of touch," Mr Cormick says.
National also seems determined to extend the national standards testing regime, even though the statistics show the policy has failed to lift achievement.
