Te reo and tikanga for new migrants
The Maori Party's immigration policy will see new immigrants bonded to regional areas.
Co-Leader Marama Fox highlighted key issues.
Marama Fox says new immigrants will need to undergo language and tikanga education and serve a two year internship in regional townships to share their skills and knowledge.
"What we've said is if we have migrants come into the country we need to make sure they have suitable manaakitanga around them so they can settle in our community. What we've also said is that we'd like them to do two year internships in the regions. So you get bonded to a region first where you become part of the community, you give voluntary time in the community to help support local businesses" she says.
Maori Party Co-Leader Marama Fox, says the policy doesn't identify a cap on immigrant numbers
