More help for unemployed teens
The Government is spending $2.5 million to extend a programme that is helping Te Taitokerau young people on a benefit get into employment, education or training.
Employment Minister Willie Jackson says Taitamariki 500 has been embraced by the communities where it has operated for the past 17 months.
The new He Poutama Taitamariki work readiness programme will reach 15-17 year olds who are not receiving a benefit and will also help address some of the more complex health and social needs of the rangatahi.
The Government is also putting about $1 million each into the Mangatoa Station forestry and ecological restoration project in Kaikohe, and Forest Protection Services’ Tupu Ake initiative in Whangarei, where some of the young people will get work experience and train towards qualifications.
