Te Puia gushes geyserphone app
Te Puia has unveiled the first Maori-themed augmented reality face filter for mobile phones.
The filter was developed by the New Zealand Maori Arts Institute and Facebook Creative Shop.
When visitors to the Rotorua-based New Zealand Maori Arts and Craft Institute share stories on Facebook or Messenger, opening their mouths will trigger an animated effect of the world famous Pohutu geyser erupting in the background, and a kiwi will then walk across the screen.
Te Puia marketing manager Kiri Atkinson-Crean says the filter offers visitors an exclusive way to share their experience and Maori culture with family and friends through social media.
The Te Puia AR filter was built by Nic Neame at The Little Red Brick using Facebook’s AR face tracking technology.
