Shooting praise vile grandstanding
Vile, disgusting and inappropriate.
That's the response of Restorative Justice Aotearoa general manager Mike Hinton to Sensible Sentencing Trust founder Garth McVicar's praise for the police shooting of a man at the weekend.
In a Facebook post, the tough on crime lobbyist said the death of a man near Warkworth after a car chase meant one less to clog the prisons.
Mr Hinton says police don't go to work to kill people.
"Garth McVicar just to blow this out for some publicity, a bit of air time, to make a statement or to justify his existence or possibly grandstand because his relevance is nothing. He really is a person of no consequence and I'm surprised we give him credence and time at all," he says.
Mr Hinton says the Sensible Sentencing Trust is a political lobby group and should lose its charitable status.
