Trade war creates opportunities for
Some Māori exporters could benefit from United States' president Donald Trump's trade war with China.
Exporters are heading for the Opening Doors to the West business forum in Chengdu and Xian next month.
Backers for the forum include New Zealand Maori Tourism and China Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand.
Chamber chair David Wang says the ancient city of Xi'an will celebrate New Zealand Night on September 10 with a banquet and imperial Welcome Ceremony usually held for visiting heads of state.
A New Zealand Showcase on the Great Tang pedestrian mall the next day will feature performances by Whanganui Brass Band & Haka Experience.
American lobster exports to China dropped more than 80 percent in the first six month of this year because of retaliatory tariffs, creating an opportunity for Maori exporters, and the Chinese are looking for alternative sources for other food produces.
