Cycling way to learn of Māori pathways
A rōpu which promotes cycle rides on old Māori pathways is one of 15 groups to get funding from Auckland Transport’s Community Bike Fund.
Marg Haimona from Time 2 Train says the pūtea means they will be able to reach a far wider range of people and deliver bike safe assessments, learn to ride sessions, guided rides and tikanga and reo components.
The rōpu, also known as T2T Sports Inc, encourages whānau to connect to their whānau, their community and the whenua that surrounds them including introducing them to traditional pathways that now serve as cycleways.
It will hold weekend hapori paihikara or community bike rides in Henderson, Pt England, Mataatua Marae Māngere, Manurewa Marae and Massey Park, Papakura.
