Council organisations get hurry along on Māori framework
An Auckland councillor says council controlled organisations don't seem to know how to deliver outcomes for Māori.
Papakura-Manurewa Ward councillor and Māori portfolio head Angela Dalton says the Kia Ora Tāmaki Makaurau Māori outcomes framework was discussed as part of a recent meeting with CCO chairs and chief executives about implementation of the Auckland Plan to 2050.
Proposed outcomes include investment into marae, growing intergenerational wealth within whānau Māori, and bringing more mana whenua to decision making tables.
She says they got through the discussion in 20 minutes with no progress to report.
"So powerful in the lack of information, particularly at a strategic level, how just making this what we do every day, thinking about delivering outcomes for Māori, and that we are all doing it and that we are consistent," Ms Dalton says.
Angela Dalton says the Māori framework will be added to the statements of intent council controlled organisations must work to.
