Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated chair Bayden Barber says last Friday’s hui taumata at showed a unified Māori voice can bring change to Aotearoa.
The hui at Omāhu Marae near Hastings discussed ways for Māori to achieve mana motuhake and tino rangatiratanga.
Mr Barber says a broad selection of kaupapa were discussed.
“What the hui is saying, is that we have the solutions within us. If we can organize ourselves when we go to government, it is iwi Māori, rangatira ki rangatira kōrero. And I think that they would be happy to receive that type of kōrero,” he says.
Bayden Barber says there will be one more hui taumata to allow people from Te Tai Tonga to be heard.
