Cloud service puts Māori land data closer to users
The chief information officer for Te Tumu Paeroa says moving the agency’s data on to Microsoft’s New Zealand-based cloud service is a way to improve services for landowners within a Māori data sovereignty framework.
The agency, which services the Māori Trustee and administers about 1800 Māori land trusts and other Māori entities for more than 100,000 owners, is an anchor tenant of the new facility alongside Accident Compensation, PWC, Auckland Transport and Fonterra.
Ruth Russell says it will enable the organisation to reap the benefits of cloud technology.
“So innovation, automation, new features, being able to use artificial intelligence whilst maintaining that data in Aotearoa so we see a variety of opportunities including the opportunity to explore new and innovative uses of whenua in ways to boost its productivity,” Ms Russell says.
The cloud platform will allow improvements to the existing My Whenua portal, giving owners better access to information about their whenua with things like interactive content, mobile apps and chatbots.
