A financial coach says too many Māori have been conditioned to see home ownership as unattainable.
The Māori home ownership rate was 47.2 percent at the 2018 census, compared to 70.6 percent for pakeha, with the bulk of Maori-owned homes being in rural and provincial areas.
Inez White Faitala, who runs home ownership workshops in Rotorua, says financial literacy needs to be learned at the dinner table rather than in the classroom.
