Jackson legacy fires tiriti korero
One of the speakers at the sixth M9 event in Auckland says the capacity crowd showed there is a hunger for quality korero and advocacy about Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Speakers including former MP Hone Harawira, current MP Takuta Ferris, academics Ella Henry and Veronica Tawhai, lawyers Eru Kapa Kingi and Dayle Takitimu and journalist Mihinarangi Forbes tackled the theme Ka Tohe Au, Ka Tohe Au! I am the sovereign!
Environmentalist and indigenous rights advocate Tina Ngata says one person was there in spirit – the late Moana Jackson, co-author of the Matakite Mai blueprint for constitutional change.
“The footprint of Moana Jackson was just so present through all of this discussion, all of the presentations. You could really see that the legacy of his teachings is carrying on,” she says.
