Pasifika stage call for unity
Māori and Tahitian musician Seth Haapu says he was proud to represent his Māoritanga in front of the diverse crowd at this weekend’s Pasifika Festival.
The festival at the Western Springs showcased cultures from across 11 island nations from Te Moananui ā Kiwa.
Haapu says Māori have always used music and dance to bring people together.
“We’d have all of these spoken forms that allow us to share our history together to share our aspirations, our hopes. So when I look out and I see yourself and our other hoa enjoying singing the kupu it means that it’s touched their ngākau, which is I think the most important place that music should impact,” he says.
