Leadership tussle in Waikato-Tainui
Waikato-Tainui’s executive board Te Arataura is meeting tomorrow to vote on a new chair and deputy, after incumbent Tukuroirangi Morgan failed to secure enough support to continue in the role.
Kaahui Ariki representative Ngira Simmonds says the tribal parliament, Te Whakakitenga, has completed its triennial election, with Tipa Mahuta from Waahi Pa elected to the chair.
Her deputy is Ngatitahinga Wilson from Makaurau Marae, one of the newest members of the house.
Ms Mahuta says she is looking forward to working with the new executive board members.
Her predecessor, Parekawhia McLean, is now on the executive, with the other new members being Vince Hapi and Craig Barrett.
