Labour Party deputy leader Kelvin Davis says a selection battle faced by Manurewa MP Louisa Wall is a healthy part of politics.
The challenges are coming from Arena Williams from Ngāi Tūhoe, who stood for Hunua in 2014 when she was just 24, and Ian Dunwoodie, whose lengthy cv includes being a parliamentary advisor to the seat's former MP, George Hawkins.
Mr Davis says he expects the Ms Wall to come out on top.
"She's a valuable member of caucus, of the Māori caucus, she's certainly staunch in all the issues she takes up, but we just have to wait to see how it all pans out," he says.
MPs can't take their positions for granted, and they should make the most of every opportunity to do the best for their people.
