Jobs next task for Buttabean motivaion
South Auckland community activist Dave Letele wants to set up a recruitment agency.
The former boxer turned motivator was a surprise addition to this month’s hui a motu at Turangawaewae, sharing his perspective on the poverty he sees through his food bank.
He says that food bank was originally set up during the pandemic – but the need hasn’t gone away, and it’s getting harder to get donations.
“We’re helping the same families we have since Covid and things haven’t got better for them. A lot of them still not working so I want to work with them on getting them a true hand up. If you’re going to come in we’re going to help you get a job and then we’ll support you with food to support you on that journey but the whole idea is to get you out of the need for that, so that’s where we’re shifting our focus this year,” Mr Letele says.
He says he’s on a journey to discover the Maori side of his whakapapa – and he’s disappointed with the way the coalition Government’s approach Maori issues.
