Policies inciting racism says Hipkins
Labour Party leader Chris Hipkins has accused the coalition Government of inciting racism.
During the pōwhiri for opposition parties at Rātana Pā yesterday, Mr Hipkins called out the Government for promoting policies he says will take Māori backwards.
They include scrapping the Māori Health Authority, lessening the use of te reo Māori within government, rewriting Te Tiriti, ending co-governance and reneging on many of the developments aimed at addressing the wrongs of the past.
“The policies of this government are emboldening others, Hobson’s Choice is just one. The policies of this current Government encourage, foster and enable racism in New Zealand and we should call that out for what it is,” Mr Hipkins said.
