Reti aims for 95% herd immunity for tamariki Māori
Health Minister Shane Reti wants to boost the immunisation rate for pepi and tāmariki Māori up to 95 percent from the current 70 percent.
Yesterday he announced funding of $50 million over two years for Whānau Ora and other Maori providers to work with those most at risk – Māori and non-Māori pēpi, hāpu māma, and kaumātua.
“So we know we want to get towards 95 percent herd immunity, that’s the end goal and there’s quite a big gap between 70 percent we start with today and 95 so we are figuring out how we can close that in a way that is achievable. We’ll set yearly parameters as to how to narrow that gap and targets that we’ll expect out providers to meet,” Minister Reti says.
