Chase the money government hurting taiao
Green MP Teanau Tuiono says the Government parties are a massive threat to the environment and the climate.
Parliament this week scrapped the previous Labour-Green Government’s replacement for the 1991 Resource Management Act, with Minister Chris Bishop saying the RMA will eventually be replaced with new resource management laws based on the enjoyment of property rights.
Mr Tuiono says the Government has also promised to lit the ban on oil and gas exploration, and Resources Minister Shane Jones is talking about allowing mining on the conservation state.
“What we have here is disrespect for Papatuanuku and that is why the weather is warmer, that is why we have climate change. Don’t we have to get back to those principles of taking care of when whenua, taking care of moana? These are things that will get us through but we have forgotten that and my relatives over in other political parties, particularly New Zealand First, have just fallen for the big bucks. They’re just following the money,” he says.
