National to support Select Committee hearing into Treaty
The incoming coalition Government has agreed to introduce a Treaty Principles Bill based on existing ACT policy and will support it to a Select Committee as soon as practicable.
But Christopher Luxon who will be sworn in as Prime Minister this morning says National will only support it to the first reading and that’s the extent of National’s commitment. Prior to the election Luxon says the referenda is divisive.
ACT Party Leader David Seymour campaigned on sending the Treaty directly to a referenda. Having it go through the Select Committee allows the public to make submissions on the Bill.
It will be up to the ACT Party to persuade its coalition partners to back it to full legislation once submissions have been heard.
