Parihaka to host Kiingi Tuheitia
The Māori king is making his first visit to Parihaka Pa this Saturday- and it’s becoming a summit for Māori leadership.
King Tuheitia will be joined by the new tumuaki of Te Hahi Ratana, Manuao Te Kohamutunga.
Wharehoka Wano, who’s the Taranaki representative on the king’s Tekau-ma-Rua advisory council, says it’s a chance to form a unified Māori voice about the new Government’s intentions.
Te Tai Hauauru MP Debbie Ngarewa-Packer from Ngāti Ruanui says the day will be a big day spiritually and politically.
“We have to unite and focus on movements and kaupapa that are unapologetically Māori and are about kaupapa,” she says.
Te Pāti Māori will be there on November 18 as another movement that sees itself as a vehicle for Māori.
