Mokopuna and whakapapa reminder of parliament mahi
Labour may not have won the election but deputy leader Kelvin Davis is celebrating with the birth of his first mokopuna.
Granddaugher Nia was expected on election weekend but waited until the dust settled and emerged last Wednesday.
The Te Tai Tokerau MP says it reminded him of why he got into politics.
“I’ve always said when my tūpuna Pomare signed Te Tiriti I’m guessing he did it in the hope Aotearoa would be a better place for his uri and the work I’m doing in parliament I hope it make’s Nia’s world a better world for her, so it’s a continuation of that whakapapa helping our future whakapapa,” he says.
Kelvin Davis will have to wait until November 3 to know if his 487 election night majority is enough to keep out Te Pāti Māori candidate Mariameno Kapa-Kingi.
