Scare tactics attack democracy in action

New Zealand First Northland candidate Shane Jones says attempts by other parties to scare off its voters is an attack on democracy.
New Zealand First’s late surge in the polls has prompted National, ACT and Labour to issue dire warnings of a hung parliament and the need for another election if Winston Peters hold the balance of power after Saturday.
Mr Jones told Radio Waatea host Dale Husband that Mr Peters has been a valued member of coalitions on both sides of the political divide, and the party’s position is that questions of building a Government should be left until after the voters have had their say.
“The shenanigans you are describing represent a sustained attempt to threaten, intimidate and quite frankly distort the electoral process. People need to feel strong enough, safe enough to make their own call without being given all these visions of apocalyptic outcomes and that is what National and sadly Labour are doing as well,” he says.
