Hipkins outing could be Māori Party price

Māori Party president John Tamihere says Labour has failed to give Māori in areas with a high Māori population like south and west Auckland a reason to get out to vote.
He says Te Pati Māori has filled in the gap with policies like having a wealth tax – and it could also have a say in the Labour leadership.
“If we get there with the right vote I guarantee there will be a wealth tax, I guarantee GST will come off kai. Those are the transformational policies that reset the clock in this country. I know Hipkins has ruled it out but straight after the election if he wants o continue that and we’ve got a say, the Labour caucus are going to have to meet and pick a new leader if they want to govern the country,” Mr Tamihere says.
He says winning more Māori seats with a two tick campaign is the only way Te Pati Māori will get the leverage it needs with any Government.
