Bad blood taints coalition prospect

New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters says he won’t take the call if Labour leader Chris Hipkins needs his support to form a Government after October 14.
In a virtual town hall meeting yesterday, Mr Hipkins again ruled out working with Mr Peters, saying that during the previous coalition a lot of initiatives were stymied because New Zealand First changed its mind at the last minute, often for no apparent reason.
Mr Peters says Labour lied to him about what was going on.
“When you gone someone, a party trust and they betray you behind your back and then have the audacity to say I was chaos – the only thing keeping them together was New Zealand First between 2017 and 2020. What’s my evidence for that? The moment we left they were absolutely hopeless,” he says.
Mr Peters says politics is a tough business.
