Top teacher says online lessons a necessity
This year’s winner of the Prime Minister’s educator of the year award says one of today’s biggest challenges is getting student to turn up.
Enoka Murphy teaches te reo Māori at the University of Waikato.
He says student engagement has been a real struggle post pandemic.
“You can be the best teacher in the world, but if a student doesn’t turn up, ever, what does that mean? I kind of feel like maybe the immediate future, perhaps, is staying online,” he says.
Dr Murphy says teachers got pretty good at teaching online during the pandemic, and maybe it needs to continue to be the norm.
