Reti keen on partnership boards without authority

National’s health spokesperson Shane Reti says while National is committed to scrapping the Maori health authority, he wants to keep the iwi partnership boards set up as part of Labour’s health reform.
He says they need to be funded appropriately and given local decision making powers.
“We will build them up better than what the Ernst Young Report into the Maori Health Authority said was happening with iwi-Maori partnership boards, that is that they were under-funded and under capacity. I will do that differently. They will survive and thrive in my hands,” he says.
Dr Reti says while some boards are ready to take more responsibility now, others will need to build their capability.
