Housing plans ramped up
Labour’s Tāmaki Makaurau candidate Peeni Henare says the Government has delivered on housing.
Mr Henare, who’s been an associate minister for Māori housing for the past six years, says the promise by Opposition parties of 1000 new houses a year in Auckland is what has already been delivered.
He says Labour has laid the foundations for even faster growth to meet demand.
“It’s more than achievable and what I’d like to say on behalf of this Government in building those 6500 houses and many more in the pipeline is we’ve built a strong building sector here in Tāmaki Makaurau, increasing apprenticeships, all of those things in order to ramp up and continue to ensure housing is a number one priority. We’ve been delivering and so I think we can continue to do this and deliver more for Tāmaki Makaurau,” Mr Henare says.
Peeni Henare says it’s important to keep building public housing as well as supporting social housing providers to make effective use of their assets.
