GST exemption process exhaustive
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins says a detailed and exhaustive process will determine which fruit and vegetables will be GST exempt under the Labour Party’s new policy.
He says there will always going to be things that sit at the margins, and the rules will be made clear before the new regime kicks in on April 1 next year – if Labour gets reelected.
“There may be some changes in packaging so for example if you currently buy your bagged salad greens and they have a mayonnaise or dressing included in the package, the people who do that may start selling the mayonnaise or dressing separate so the bagged salad can be gst-free,” Mr Hipkins says.
Labour is also promising a $25 increase in the Working for Families tax credit and further down the track a lift in the abatement threshold to $50,000.
