Warriors raise funds for former coach
Mt Smart Stadium – or as it’s now known, the Go Media Stadium – will be called the Daniel Anderson Stadium when the New Zealand Warriors take on the Manly Sea Eagles on Friday night.
The name change is part of the fund raising for the former Warriors, Parramatta, St Helens and New Zealand coach, who suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury late last year while body surfing on the New South Wales Central Coast.
Former rugby league star Monty Betham says since the accident Anderson has been in rehabilitation in Ryde, Sydney.
“He’s been at Royal Rehab trying to get well, get better. It takes him 90 minutes a day to get up and get ready to move around and do his training and he trains for two hours each day and I think this next 18 months is a crucial part because this is the window he needs to get as much mobility or function back before it gets a little bit too hard and it could be lost forever,” Betham says.
Proceeds from some of the seats will go to Daniel Anderson’s medical fund, and there will also be an auction of a jersey signed by the team.
