MPs ducking climate crisis

Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer is accusing her fellow Māori of being soft on climate change.
She endorsed former Mana Party deputy leader Annette Sykes’ comments on Radio Waatea talkback that Maori politicians aren’t doing enough on climate change and the environment generally.
Ms Ngarewa-Packer says Te Pati Maori could not get any cross-party support for her members bill to ban seabed mining.
It’s a missed opportunity.
“I have always been highly critical of what the Government is doing on climate change and if I’m hard on them imagine what National and ACT, the coalition of colonisers is going to be like so there has not been a strong performance in that House for addressing the climate crisis. It’s not climate change – we’re in crisis mode,” she says.
