Auckland Council is ramping up community outreach to boost voter turnout in the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board by-election.
The by-election was triggered by Swanie Nelson’s resignation from representative of the Otara representative subdivision, which is bounded by Ngāti Ōtara Park in the north, Te Irirangi Drive to the east, Redoubt Road to the south and State Highway One.
The council’s manager of governance services, Rose Leonard, says turnout in the area was just 23 percent in last year’s local body elections
