Nurses stop work for safe staffing

Nurses around the country are holding two hour stopworks this week to discuss their pay claim.
Whakatane Nurses Organisation delegate Tracy Black says the latest offer still doesn’t match inflation.
Nurses feel undervalued overwhelmed and exhausted after standing up in the pandemic and through natural disasters.
“One of the biggest claims we asked for is around safe staffing because safe staffing keeps the public safe, it keeps us safe, it keeps everybody safe,” she says.
Ms Black says nurses are having to ask whanau members of patients to come in with personal care, because they have too many cases to look after.
She says better wages and conditions across the Tasman are making Australia look attractive to many nurses.
