Māori foresters seek certainty in ETS

Māori foresters are coming together in a bid to get more influence in policy setting.
Industry group Ngā Pou a Tāne has held a national hui, Ngā Kōrero Rangatira mō Ngā Hua Ngahere, in Rotorua this week.
Board member Ernest Morton from Ngati Hine Forest Trust says Maori asset managers and foresters have been locking horns with officials and ministers over changes to the emissions trading scheme.
“Some people will say it is complicated and to a degree it is – you can go to sleep one night sort of kind of understanding and wake up the next morning, the goalposts have moved,” he says.
Mr Morton says Nga Pou a Tane should hep Maori foresters stay ahead of the game.
