Kerekere “recovering” from Greens
Newly independent MP Elizabeth Kerekere says she may consider joining Te Pati Māori in the future.
The list MP resigned from the Green Party last week, cutting short an investigation into her behaviour towards colleagues and staff.
She says she has talked with Māori Party president John Tamihere and co-leaders Debbie Ngarewa-Packer and Rawiri Waititi, but at the moment she’s still recovering from what happened with the Greens.
“This was my party. I’ve done a lot of work with them. I was the MP that was most involved with the party. Lots of our policies, there’s some that I helped write. There’s Māori frameworks I’ve created to restructure the party and the political office. I invested a lot into our party and I wasn’t and I’m still not ready to just go into another one,” Dr Kerekere says.
She says the Māori Party has told her the door is open in future.
