Māori Party sounds out big names for south Auckland seats
Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa Packer has confirmed the party is talking to prominent South Aucklanders Louisa Wall and David Letele about standing in the October election.
Ms Wall would represent Te Pati Maori in the Manurewa electorate she held for Labour before being asked to step aside for a list position, and Mr Letele would be in Mangere when he has established a range of community programmes.
“So they’re both amazing people in their own mana and their kaupapa and if they decide to join us they will be welcome. That’s the discussions going on but I’m excited by those honouring us with their tautoko and who believe in our kaupapa,” Ngarewa-Packer says.
She says the Maori Party is also relevant to Maori who ae on the general roll
