Shower head solution for water bill rise

Watercare CEO Dave Chambers says the council-controlled organisation may be able to help some whānau struggling to pay their water bills.
Watercare has announced a 10 per cent increase to account for inflation and the extra costs involved in running and replacing Auckland’s ageing reticulation system.
That’s about $2.20 a week for the average household, but for some customers every dollar counts.
“So if people are struggling we’d really encourage them to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can work through any flexible charging options. We do run a free in-home audit to look at how people use water and provide advice on how to do that,” he says.
Watercare can also provide low flow shower heads and kitchen taps.
Mr Chambers says Watercare’s 2021 plan was to spend $10 billion over the next 10 years improving the water system, but rising building costs have pushed that out to $13 million.
