Human rights focus on mosque shooting anniversary

Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon says the fourth anniversary of the Christchurch mosque attacks has passed with a mix of anxiety and optimism.
He says the events of March 15 2019 brought greater awareness of the need to tackle racial and religious prejudice.
The Human Rights Commission is backing a new project, Whakamana Hāpori-Empowering Our Communities, which has so far been rolled out in Tauranga, Otautahi and Otepoti.
“It is about giving knowledge of te tiriti and human rights to a number of people in the community and then they get to choose a project about human rights or te tiriti and hopefully they will be able to impart further knowledge to other people in their communities,” Mr Foon says.
