Maori development source of pride for newest Nat
National’s new Maori development spokesperson says he’s excited to see some great things happening in that space.
Tama Potaka was elected in a by-election to Hamilton West Kirikiriroa ki te Uru and made his maiden speech this week.
The former tribal executive says he’s enjoying learning the ropes at parliament and looking after the people in his electorate, and he’s intends to hold the Government to account on his shadow portfolios, which also include social and emergency housing.
He says Maori development is an area where both major parties have made contributions.
“I take great pride in seeing the great thing that are happening in the Maori development space and also some of the challenges but there are some magnificent Maori organisations, whanau businesses, whanau ora, collectively-owned organisations in the agribusiness and other spaces, and it is really marvellous to see the positive things that are happening and we need to catalyse that more and facilitate that more when we are in parliament,” Mr Potaka says.
