Jackson leads cyclone Gabrielle Māori response

Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson says he’s taking stock to determine what Māori need to build back from Cyclone Gabrielle.
He’s been appointed to the Extreme Weather Recovery cabinet committee headed by the new Minister for Cyclone Recovery, Grant Robertson.
As well as the Prime Minister and the housing and social development ministers, the committee includes ministers tasked with coordinating the response in their regions, including Kelvin Davis, Nanaia Mahuta and Kiri Allen.
Mr Jackson says he is already speaking with Māori leaders in the worst-affected areas.
“Myself and Minister Davis are talking with Māori about their needs, their wants, what’s happened. We need to get a bit of a stocktake in terms of marae, in terms of urupā, in terms of jobs, so it’s something we will work through obviously over the next few days, over the next week or two,” he says.
