Waitangi @ Waititi is the biggest, free, live music event in Tāmaki Makaurau on February 6 and everyone is invited.
After a three-year absence Te Whānau o Waipareira are excited to present Tāmaki’s biggest Waitangi music festival, Waitangi @ Waititi, with Stan Walker, Katchafire, Savage and Three Houses Down leading an impressive line-up of live acts across two stages.
A crowd of over 40,000 is expected to stream into Parrs Park for the all day, free event that kicks off at 9:00 AM and finishing around 4:00 PM. This is the largest Waitangi Day celebration in Tāmaki Makaurau with 17 live performances including kapa haka and dance crews.
Te Whānau o Waipareira CEO, John Tamihere acknowledges this festival has come at just the right time.
“Waitangi @ Waititi gives whānau something to celebrate, an event in the very same part of Tāmaki that has been devastated by the recent flooding. On Monday we can commemorate this very significant day with our whānau, enjoying some outstanding live performances at Hoani Waititi Marae together”.
While a number of dignitaries have confirmed their attendance, Stan Walker is clear why he’s there.
“This is a whakapiki ora for the people. I’m excited to come together and bring hope to our whānau as they recover from the floods and damage caused to this community. To be honest, we all need a wairua booster! I believe this is the best Waitangi celebration in Aotearoa?’.
A large number of kai trucks will be on site all day selling a wide range of food; there is a kids playland, whānau and kaumātua zones as well as exhibition craft services. MC’s for the festival are K’Lee and Storme from MAI FM and Dale Husband from Radio Waatea.
