Ministerial Appointed Member of Te Pūkotahitanga Tackling Family & Sexual Violence Now New CE of Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services
Today, Te Pūkotahitanga Chair Katie Murray (Tangata Whenua Ministerial Advisory Group to Hon. Marama Davidson Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence), fellow Te Pūkotahitanga member Dr Maria Baker and Te Puna Aonui (Joint Venture whole-of-government approach to eliminating Family and Sexual Violence) Chief Māori Advisor, Sandra Peipi attended the auspicious Pōwhiri of another Te Pūkotahitanga member, Dr Moana Eruera.
She has been appointed as the new CEO for Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services in the heart of Te Whare Tapu o Ngāpuhi at Kohewhata Marae, Kaikohe.
A large rōpū from ‘Nga Hau e Wha’ gathered to tautoko Dr Moana Eruera for her new journey where she will work beside her Iwi.
Dr Eruera shared about her early years, and the whakapapa that has brought her home to the North with many years of experience in policy, leadership, education, research both within community and at a national level.
She offers has more than 30-years’ experience in social and community work, including in family violence prevention, statutory child protection and youth justice, social work education and iwi social services sectors.
Her professional career has been committed to strengthening whānau, tamariki and rangatahi Māori safety and wellbeing and development and the application of tangata whenua frameworks and practices in social work and community work.
Dr Moana Eruera has had professional roles in government and iwi organisations that have supported her critical understanding of the tensions and barriers that impede meaningful design and implementation of policies, strategies and practices for Māori.
Te Pūkotahitanga wish Dr Eruera all the very best in this integral role.
