Black Ferns dominate rugby awards
Accolades for the Black Ferns’ sixth World Cup title flowed into this year’s New Zealand Rugby awards.
The women’s side won the team of the year title, Wayne Smith was coach of the year, and co-captain and first five Ruahei Demant took three awards – the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial player of the year, Tom French Māori player of the year and Black Ferns player of the year.
The team’s length-of-the-field effort in the World Cup final – finished off by Stacey Fluhler – was named try of the year.
Loose forward Ardie Savea was the All Blacks player of the year.
Ngarohi McGarvey-Black won the men’s sevens award.
