Public health expert Sarfati confirmed to lead Health Ministry
Public health specialist Diana Sarfati has been confirmed as director-general of health and chief executive of the Ministry of Health.
She has been acting in the role since the retirement of Ashley Bloomfield in July.
Dr Sarfati was previously chief executive of Te Aho o Te Kahu, the Cancer Control Agency after a distinguished academic career focused on health systems, addressing inequity in health, and cancer.
Deputy public service commissioner Helene Quilter says Dr Sarfati has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the public health system in New Zealand.
