Waikato lockdown extended six days
COVID Alert level 3 conditions in parts of Waikato have been extended until at least next Wednesday after eight more cases were detected yesterday.
COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says the eight cases in Te Awamutu show how stubborn Delta can be.
He says most people in the region have been following the rules, and the cases coming up are in the main household contacts or people linked to known cases.
He urged people to remain in their bubbles over the long weekend.
In total, Waikato has 64 cases of COVID-19, 10 have recovered and one person remains in hospital.
The alert level includes Waitomo District including Te Kuiti, Waipa District, Ōtorohanga District, Raglan, Te Kauwhata, Huntly, Ngāruawāhia, Hamilton City and some surrounding areas.
